Assessments

Middleton Mill Ditch Co. and Middleton Irrigation Association are both "one share per acre" companies.

The minimum charge for one acre or less is $38 for 2024 and is calculated at that rate for all accounts over one share.  Each account has an administrative fee of $10.00 per certificate issued, thus the minimum rate for one share or less is $48.00 for 2024.

The annual assessments are set each year in late spring after we have received our annual assessments from the Bureau of Reclamation. Middleton Irrigation & Middleton Mill Ditch pay an annual assessment to the Bureau of Reclamation for a percentage of bureau's operations and maintenance for Lucky Peak Dam.

 

Middleton Irrigation and Middleton Mill Ditch have storage water behind Lucky Peak Dam and are recognized by the Bureau of Reclamation as water right holders. Their assessment to Middleton Irrigation and Middleton Mill Ditch greatly influences the annual assessments set by Middleton Irrigation & Middleton Mill Ditch Companies.​ We are subject to their assessments to cover the dam's maintenance, repairs, etc.

Those assessments are reflected in what we charge the stockholders.

The Middleton Irrigation/Middleton Mill System includes a number of Incorporated Laterals and many Unincorporated Laterals (private).  Many of the stockholders receive a bill for more than one ditch company.​

Many stockholders question why they receive more than one assessment, especially when they only have one ditch. 

Laterals are "carrier" ditches or delivery ditches.  Very few of our stockholders live so close to the main canal that they get water straight out of the main canal.

Laterals bring the water closer to various properties within our service area. There may be further branches off of the laterals to bring water to the properties. Some of them may or may not assess. Everybody on an unincorporated lateral is responsible for the cost of cleaning, maintaining and repairing the ditch.
